After an early breakfast, we depart for Paltuding; ranger’s post on 4 WD jeep. This is an awesome beauty of Java’s wonder volcano; Mount Ijen. Then we walk up the Ijen plateau through the hilly landscape till up to the crater edge. The reward for your effort is a breath taking morning view of Mount Ijen. If weather is clear, you may see the great sulfur lake. After enjoying the lake and the local Sulphur mining at the lake shore, we head back down to the ranger’s post and drive on to Tosari.
We shall arrive Bromo in the early evening and check in to Lava View Cottages.
About Mount Ijen
The Ijen volcano complex is a group of stratovolcanoes in the Banyuwangi Regency of East Java, Indonesia.
It is inside a larger caldera Ijen, which is about 20 kilometers wide. The Gunung Merapi stratovolcano is the highest point of that complex. The name “Gunung Merapi” means “mountain of fire” in the Indonesian language (api being “fire”); Mount Merapi in central Java and Marapi in Sumatra have the same etymology.
West of Gunung Merapi is the Ijen volcano, which has a one-kilometer-wide turquoise-colored acidic crater lake. The lake is the site of a labor-intensive sulfur mining operation, in which sulfur-laden baskets are carried by hand from the crater floor.
Many other post-caldera cones and craters are located within the caldera or along its rim. The largest concentration of post-caldera cones run east-west across the southern side of the caldera. The active crater at Kawah Ijen has a diameter of 722 meters (2,369 ft) and a surface area of 0.41 square kilometers (0.16 sq mi). It is 200 meters (660 ft) deep and has a volume of 36 cubic hectometers.
The lake is recognized as the largest highly acidic crater lake in the world. It is also a source for the river Banyupahit, resulting in highly acidic and metal-enriched river water which has a significant detrimental effect on the downstream river ecosystem
After an early morning wake and coffee, we will drive to Mount Pananjakan; a viewing point for a spectacular sunrise. Afterwards, crossing the sea of sand, we drive down to Mount Bromo. From here we will ride on local ponies and ride to the foot of the Mount Bromo. Then walk up to 246 steps straight up to the rim of the mountain and experience the great view from the top.
Then we head back to your hotel for breakfast. From this point, this will be your leisure time until your time to transfer Surabaya Airport for your onward destination.
About Mount Bromo
Mount Bromo is probably one of the most famous scenic attraction in East Java of Indonesia. It is famous for its magnificent sunrise views and view of volcano crater there, which is very rare to see. That goes well for Kawah Ijen Volcano Crater.
To be awe in nature’s best combination of beauty and danger, an active volcano that can be so foreboding and desolate yet so beautiful. The view itself is almost out of this world and a powerful reason to go there!
